Nénette
After 40 years, Nénette the orangutan is still packing in the pilgrims at the world’s oldest zoo, Jardin des Plantes in Paris, and Nicolas Philibert's attentive documentary ponders why the unreadable creature is the object of enduring fascination. In a film that's equally about humans projecting their feelings, the camera focuses only on Nénette, who simply returns the gaze while visitors' offscreen comments fill in the blanks in her expressions.
