Maybach has always stood for luxury and elegance in automobile construction.That was no different in 1936 when the Maybach SW 38 was introduced. To continue to provide the same power despite diminishing fuel quality, engineers increased engine size in the successor to the SW 35 from 3.5 liters to a 3.8-liter engine in SW 38. Later it grew to 4.2 liters. Maybach was founded in 1909 and originally built engines for Zeppelins. It built cars for about 20 years until 1941 - producing some 2200 vehicles.
