Liberal party chose Christy Clark to replace Gordon Campbell as party leader and premier. Only 44 years old, the single mother served as a minister and deputy premier under Campbell from 2001 to 2005. Clark then abruptly quit politics to spend more time with her family. As a result, Clark was deemed an outsider in the leadership race. She won despite having little support from caucus members or the party establishment. Clark’s challenges are many. They include distancing her government from the controversial HST, keeping the Liberal centre-right coalition together, and being re-elected to the Legislative Assembly. CPAC’s Ed Watson takes a look at these issues plus how provincial politics will change with Christy Clark as premier of British Columbia.
