Sundance Film Festival Classics "Sikumi"
The story of an Inuit hunter who drives his dog team out on the frozen Arctic Ocean in search of seals, but instead, becomes a witness to murder. Programmer’s Note: Armed with an MFA from NYU, Inupiaq filmmaker Andrew Okpeaha MacLean first arrived at the Sundance Film Festival in 2005 with his short film "Seal Hunting For Dad." Three years later, MacLean returned to Park City with the powerful short drama "Sikumi (On The Ice)," about an Inuit hunter who witnesses a murder on the Arctic Ocean. The film, loved by audiences and heralded by jurors, captured a Special Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and played at over 40 film festivals across the globe. Having just turned "Sikumi" to a feature with help from Sundance Institute's Feature Film Program, MacLean will be once again returning to the Festival in January and presenting the story in elongated form for a new audience to discover and enjoy.
