The Moravian star
Among the many attractions at the Christmas Market on Berlin’s Gendarmenmarkt are the famous Moravian Stars - traditional decorations that are now more popular than ever. The Moravian star originated in Saxony in the 19th century. A teacher at the church school created the stars as part of his geometry lessons. Ariane Pauls and Lars Neckel have often made their own Christmas decorations, but neither of them has ever put together a Moravian Star. The instructions have stayed the same for over 100 years.
