TV host hails pilot shot in face by Taliban
TV presenter Mike Brewer pays tribute to Flight Lieutenant Ian Fortune, 28, who was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroic actions in Afghanistan. The Discovery Channel presenter was in the rear of the helicopter with six casualties when it was hit eight times by insurgents. The craft’s stabilisation system was destroyed and Fortune’s helmet visor was shattered and his cheek was cut but he refused to hand the controls to his co-pilot. The Chinook finally landed safely at Camp Bastion in Helmand province. Frontline Battle Machines, October 25, 10pm, Discovery Channel.
