Deepest public spending cuts since WWII
There were no real surprises in chancellor George Osborne’s comprehensive spending review, announced today, as Chris Giles, economics editor, tells Richard Edgar. But even though it’s coming off a high public spending base, the consumer spending review promises deep cuts in welfare, benefits, government departments and even in ‘protected’ areas such as health.
