Robert Edwards Gets Nobel Prize For Opening Field Of In-vitro Fertilization
Robert Edwards, the British scientist who invented in-vitro fertilization, has won the 2010 Nobel prize for Medicine and Physiology. The procedure he developed is now used for the birth of 300,000 babies a year worldwide, according to the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology. Because of Edwards and his breakthrough, millions of couples struggling with infertility can hope to have children of their own. VOA’s Vidushi Sinha looks at the impact this procedure has had and the concerns it has raised.
