SYRIA: Syrian protesters keep up the pressure on Assad’s government
When Bashar al-Assad succeeded his father to the Syrian presidency in 2000, the people hoped the quiet young man would be a reformer. Eleven years on, they’re taking to the streets saying they want more freedom. The government has offered some concessions, such as lifting the state of emergency in place since 1963, but for the protesters, it's not enough.
