Scrums Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe, NDP Deputy Leader Thomas Mulcair, NDP Justice critic Joe Comartin, and Liberal critic Pablo Rodriguez (Canadian Heritage and Official Languages) spoke to reporters about the government’s parole bill to end the early-parole option for non-violent criminals, the appointment of Tom Pentefountas as vice-chair of the CRTC, and Conservative MP Maxime Bernier’s comments Bill 101, Quebec’s language law. NDP Heritage and Culture critic Charlie Angus commented on the Pentefountas’ CRTC appointment and also on today’s appointment of Pierre Gingras to the CBC’s board of directors. NDP Foreign Affairs critic Paul Dewar discussed the border security deal that was reached between Canada and the United States and the confirmation of South Sudan’s referendum vote for independence.
