Scrums Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Josée Verner, Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe and NDP Leader Jack Layton spoke to reporters about speculation that federal gas tax funds might be used to fund the proposed arena in Quebec City. Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff, along with critics Marlene Jenning (Justice) and Mark Holland (Public Safety and National Security) voiced their opposition to Bill S-10, which would set mandatory minimum sentences for drug offences. Ignatieff also responded to questions about the arena funding and the proposed merger of the Toronto and London stock exchanges. Public Safety Minister Vic Toews and Conservative Senator Pierre-Hugues Boisvenu spoke to reporters about the bill to end accelerated parole for non-violent criminals, which the government tabled today.
