Spain: Competing for the Storage Site
Spain’s government is looking for a location for a nuclear waste permanent storage site. And there's no shortage of applicants. In the midst of the economic slump, many municipalities are vying for the 700-million-euro facility.Three towns are even competing in public. That's because the storage site promises both new jobs and big revenues for the municipal treasury. Many residents, on the other hand, have little interest in living near the site and being exposed to its health risks.
