Next we visit a local homestyle mushroom farm. Those are racks of farmed mushrooms drying on racks in the background. These are mushrooms which ordinarily grow off the side of trees, shelf-like. Our guide explains to us the mushrooms are farmed by creating a fake tree of sorts: a plastic bag container is filled with a mixture of sawdust and organic materials and before you know it mushrooms begin to sprout off the side of the container which are subsequently harvested, dried and sold to market.
