This one-off special follows David Attenborough as he travels the globe to film First Life in which he explores the origins of life on Earth.In the series David journeys to the parts of the world which have had special meaning to him during 50 years of broadcasting.Beginning near his boyhood Leicestershire home where he first collected fossils he then travels to Moroccos arid deserts the glaciers of Canada and the crystal-clear waters of Australias Great Barrier Reef.Sharing the origins of his love of nature David reveals: "When I was a boy growing up in the Midlands the rocks and limestone you found were full of the most magical things."You hit a stone and it suddenly fell open and there was this amazing coiled shell beautiful and extraordinary and nobody had seen that for 150 million years except you. So I thought it was very romantic and exciting. And it appealed to the small boys instinct of collecting things to be honest I dont think Ive really lost that."As a prelude to David Attenboroughs First Life Attenboroughs Journey provides a unique insight into the mind and character of one of the worlds most iconic broadcasters as he shares his passions for the natural world.
