Born from the ashes of Brooklyn’s preeminent (and sorely missed) semi-experimental smooth-jazz trio Soiled Mattress & the Springs, Silk Flowers subs out the frenetic, Mangionesque sax riffs and general cartoon vibe of their previous incarnation for a box full of mysterious knobs and a dark, minimal-synth sound that wouldn’t be out of place on a mixtape of <a href=" target="_blank">IMC bands</a> sent by your depressive, Belgian penpal circa ’84, provided you had one of those. Oh, and they also let their drummer sing. <br><br>
