Silk Flowers
Moody, rain-soaked synth from two-thirds of Brooklyn’s sunniest melody-jazz outfit.

In this edition of Practice Space, VBS inches its way down the BQE to visit the cramped rehearsal studio of Silk Flowers. Born from the ashes of Brooklyn’s preeminent (and sorely missed) semi-experimental smooth-jazz trio Soiled Mattress & the Springs, Silk Flowers subs out the frenetic, Mangionesque sax riffs and general cartoon vibe of their previous incarnation for a box full of mysterious knobs and a dark, minimal-synth sound that wouldn’t be out of place on a mixtape of <a href=" target="_blank">IMC bands sent by your depressive, Belgian penpal circa ’84, provided you had one of those. Oh, and they also let their drummer sing.
