'Too early to speculate' on nuclear risk
It’s too early to speculate on the long-term impact of Japan's nuclear disaster on fish and seafood from the neighboring ocean, says a marine scientist who studied the effects of the Chernobyl disaster on the Black Sea. The main health hazard to humans in Ukraine, he says, was ingesting contaminated food produced within the first fifty to a hundred kilometers from the Chernobyl disaster site. Excerpts from a AFPTV interview with US marine scientist Ken Buesseler at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
