The wake of a scary rollover crash on northbound Interstate 5 Wednesday was caught on video taken by a cell phone. It shows good Samaritans jumping into action to save a seriously injured driver.  Trevor Mrvich and Mark Dulog were driving on I-5 near the Clairemont exit when an SUV went off the road and down an embankment. They stopped and jumped into action, urging other bystanders to help upri More..ght the flipped SUV. "As soon as we got the car flipped, it took a lot. We were like pulling and pushing. We got it up and it went over.after that. It was smoking more and the fire started happening more," Mrvich said. "You could smell a stench, smell the gasoline and the oil," Dulog said. About a dozen or so did what they could to put out the engine fire, one that threatened the driver’s life. "There was actually smoke and flames at one point inside the car where the guys legs were, actually coming out of the dash," Mrvich said. Using water bottles and fire extinguishers, they were able to hold off the flames until help could arrive, with one man holding the driver's head steady through the whole ordeal. Firefighters arrived to douse the fire and extricate the driver from the crushed cab of the SUV using the jaws of life, but without the help of the group of good Samaritans, it may have been too late. "It's pretty amazing for people to stop, gather together then work as a team and roll a vehicle onto its wheels," Highway Patrol officer Art Athans said. "It's a really good feeling, knowing you literally helped that guy, helped save him," Mrvich said. The driver, a 36-year-old man from Carlsbad, was taken to a hospital unconscious with a broken leg. He's said to be in serious condition.
