TV industry ponders trust
As TV executives and producers gather at the Edinburgh TV Festival, the issue of trust is firmly on the agenda. After a series of scandals in the UK from rigged TV phone-ins to misleading editing of TV footage, some of television's recent transgressions are on the line in this annual TV talkfest. A just-released YouGov survey of more than 2200 people finds 48 percent don't trust TV journalists very much, 79 percent have lost faith in TV phone-ins after the recent scandals and won't enter them, while around 60 percent think documentaries and reality TV programmes are only partially truthful with some distortion of editing. Reuters' Matt Cowan has more on the debate in Edinburgh.
