Bao Tong fell from grace for supporting the 1989 Tiananmen Square demonstrations, but the regrets go back much further than that for the former top official, who calls the entire history of Communist China a "waste". The former aide to disgraced Communist Party leader Zhao Ziyang has spent the past 20 years in jail or under house arrest. In the lead up to the sensitive anniversary he has been taken out of Beijing by authorities, who are trying to quash any attempts of protest.
