China has suspended contact with Japan after the detention of a fishing boat captain was again extended. The Chinese captain was detained after his troller collided with two Japanese coastguard vessels in disputed waters on Sept. 7th, straining relations between the two countries. A military convoy in Tajikistan headed towards the Afghanistan border was ambushed by suspected militants killing at least 23 soldiers. Columbia says its military has killed 22 FARC rebels in an air and ground assault near the Ecuadorean border. And a far right party has entered the Swedish parliament for the first time, but Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt will not seek the party's help in forming a new alliance.
