1971年春天，John的第四張專輯「Poems, Prayers and Promises」出版，「Take Me Home, Country Roads」的單曲也同時推出。四月，這首歌進入了排行榜，但是進榜後移動的速度卻極為緩慢。到了八月中旬，「John Denver」終於成為一個響亮的名字，因為這首「Take Me Home, Country Roads」儘管最後並沒有拿到冠軍，卻贏得了百萬金唱片，成為1971年總排行第八名。
