Wood County rejects Toledo Zoo levy
Wood County commissioners unanimously rejected a levy request for the Toledo Zoo. That vote will keep the levy from reaching the ballot box in November - a levy zoo officials were hoping would raise an extra $2.4 million per year. The Zoo board projects a $1.2 million net loss in Lucas County tax revenues due to declining property values. Nearly the entire Toledo Zoo board showed up at the Wood County Courthouse Tuesday morning, hoping to convince taxpayers that the zoo is a regional attraction that deserves public funding. But in the end, public sentiment won out, with Wood County residents not wanting their tax dollars to cross county borders to fund something else, someplace else. The unanimous “noâ€* vote from Wood County commissioners reflected the strong anti-tax sentiments of a standing-room only crowd. [www.clipsyndicate.com WUPW FOX Toledo, OH]
