Buddy Miles - New Morning 15th Anniversary
Powerhouse drummer and singer Buddy Miles, who died in February 2008, had played in bands since he was the age of twelve, in 1959. He later went on to play and record with some of the biggest names in progressive rock, blues and funk music, including Santana, John McLaughlin, The Electric Flag, Muddy Waters and Bootsy Collins. Buddy is probably best remembered for his association with Jimi Hendrix, playing on his ?Electric Ladyland' album as well as being a key member of Jimi’s post-Experience group The Band of Gypsys - one of the first all-black rock bands. Buddy fronted several groups of his own since first forming the influential Buddy Miles Express back in 1968, playing his eclectic fusion of rock, blues, psychedelic, funk and soul music. Between 1969 and 1975 he enjoyed ten U.S. pop hit singles and eleven album hits under his own name. In this concert, filmed in Paris in 1996, he performs two extended numbers which showcase his early R&B roots. On the first of these, Albert King's blues standard 'Born Under A Bad Sign', he demonstrates his considerable talent as a guitarist, followed by a deeply soulful interpretation of The Impression's ballad hit 'For Your Precious Love'.
