Snake hiss
A 1m Mediterranean Ladder snake (Rhinechis scalaris.) that was present in my garden...they are very good tree climbers, however, unfortunatly for it, so am I :) Here is a "little" summary on this species of snake...the only thing I searched for was the name: Rhinechis scalaris. From the family Colubridae (REAR-fanged), a medium sized snake found from Southern Portugal, through Southern and Eastern Spain, all the way up to France. From there, it has been found up to Italy. It is also found on Minorca. By no means is it the commonest snake in the Mediterranean area, it is in fact faced by habitat destruction, leading to a declining population. Distinguishable by its proporcionally large head, and the obvious 2 parallel lines running the lenth of its body. When young, they have lines between the larger lines, forming a "ladder" pattern. This is where they get there names from. Comment and let me know what you think! :D
