John McCallum
Beyond Politics Liberal MP and former Chrétien Cabinet Minister John McCallum was born in Montreal, the eldest of four children who excelled at school and at the tender age of 18 attended Cambridge where he studied economics. Taught by the disciples of John Maynard Keynes, McCallum became a Keynesian himself, and taught for several years at a number of universities including McGill, Simon Fraser and even UQAM. Later, McCallum moved to the private sector and spent several years at the Royal Bank as its Chief Economist. In 2000 McCallum was approached to run by the Liberal Party, and was elected as the MP for Markham-Unionville near Toronto. An avid skier and enthusiastic golfer, the father of three boys, John McCallum talks to Catherine Clark about his life Beyond Politics.
