Baseball: -Player Goes Airborn-
Maybe Fordham University’s basketball or track teams could benefit from sophomore baseball player Brian Kownacki's newfound talent. The 20-year-old's amazing leap over a catcher to score a run for his Rams on Tuesday night has become a viral video, with more than a million views on YouTube . While on first base in the eighth, teammate Chris Walker hit a single that was bobbled by an Iona outfielder. Kownacki was waved home by the third base coach all the way from first, the New York Daily News reports. On his way to the plate he realized he had no chance of making it past the catcher who was kneeling down and ready to tag him out. Well, almost no chance. "I got about halfway between third and home and I knew I was in trouble, but there was no turning back," he tells the Daily News. " When I was about five feet away, I saw the catcher kneel down in a crouch." Instead of trying to plow over the catcher and hope he can knock the ball loose and land safely at home, Kownacki in an instant decided to attempt his first ever head-first leap over the catcher, James Beck. He performed a front flip over Beck and landed safely at home. That wacky nine-run eighth inning also led Fordham to a 12-9 comeback victory.
