And I’d like to Thank…
There are over 10,000 street vendors in New York City, feeding millions of people every day. Until 2005, they toiled thanklessly—without brass cup or plaque to show for their troubles. We don’t make light: The vendors suffer serious harassment, illegal seizures of property, and brutal work conditions. The Street Vendor Project of the Urban Justice Center seeks to protect the rights and improve the work conditions of these entrepreneurs. The Vendy Awards are their Oscar night. CHOW reported from the second annual Vendy Awards on Sunday, October 22, 2006, at St. Marks Church-in-the-Bowery in New York City.
