One gorgeous day, big wave surfers armed with the jetskis, risked their lives and charged some of the largest waves ever ridden on the west coast. In the early 90's, a California surf spot, Mavericks, emerged into the international spotlight and challenged the widespread belief that giant surfable waves only existed in the Hawaiian Island chain. Then, in 2002, a new big wave was discovered off the 18th Hole of Pebble Beach. After considerable scouting and attempts on a few medium size days, with waves in the 15 to 20 foot range, we realized we had a legitimate big wave right in our backyard - Ghost Trees.
