OPENING DAY OF BASEBALL 1936
President Franklin Roosevelt throws out the first ball to open the baseball season in Washington.  Lefty Gomez pitches for the New York Yankees. The Senators won opening day in 1936. In Fenway Park in Boston, Connie Mack and Joe Cronin exchange hellos. At New York’s Polo Grounds Mayor Fiorello La Guardia threw out the opening ball while Babe Ruth watched from the stands.
