Many non-governemental organizations are denouncing the federal government's refusal to fund, as part of its G8 maternal health initiative, programs that include abortion. On Monday, international development groups protesed on Parliament Hill. At this protest, Conservative Senator Nancy Ruth told them to "shut up" otherwise the Harper government would toughen its stance on abortion.
