Salton Sea: Bombay Beach
The Salton Sea sits tucked away in a hot desert valley in the south east corner of California. It was created in 1905 when an out of control irrigation project re-routed the Colorado River into the desert for 18 months. The area soon bloomed and became a famed resort destination, rivaling nearby Palm Springs. But today, the place is a virtual ghost town, as the Sea suffers from a host of environmental problems due to its very high salt content. In this pod, we'll look at the working class community of Bombay Beach, on the east shore of the sea, where young and old try to maintain their own little paradise.
