(CIT): On Demand Video Now Available. NIH Director Elias A. Zerhouni, M.D., and the Institute and Center Directors will be announcing a series of new initiatives known collectively as the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research. These initiatives are designed to transform the nation's medical research capabilities and speed the movement of research discoveries from the bench to the bedside. Soon after becoming NIH Director in May 2002, Dr. Zerhouni convened a series of meetings to chart a "roadmap" to accelerate medical research - a process that identified major opportunities and gaps in medical research that no single institute at NIH could tackle alone, but that the agency still needed to address.
