An awards ceremony was held Thursday morning that was intended to recognize both the Syracuse Police and Fire Departments included honors for the fire department only. Eight firefighters were awarded for their role in a Marcellus Street blaze in which the home was engulfed in flames when firefighters on April 20. They couldn’t enter through the front and the back entrance was barricaded with debris. Firefighters cleared it and broke down the door. As other men went in through a side window and located the victims - a man and his grandson.
