No Child Left Behind - CC #85
The $22.5 billion No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB Act), does it overhaul American public education or just force educators to 'teach to the test?' Debate’s divided over both the goals and implementation of this landmark legislation. The NCLB Act is the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary School Education Act of 1965. While many people expected only minor modifications, the Bush Administration proposed sweeping changes in funding, allocation and evaluation criteria. Can NCLB deliver positive and progressive change? Is it the answer to education reform or a bureaucratic entanglement of empty promises? What does the future of American public education hold?
