Madagascar Coup and Continued Violence in Haiti
(Al Jazeera English News Headlines: November 17, 2010) A group of 20 army officers say they’ve taken over the government in Madagascar. The Prime Minister has called for an emergency meeting with military leaders to decide how to respond. In the east of the DRC at least 21 people have been killed. The victims were traveling by truck when they were attacked by Rwandan Hutu rebels. Violence continues in the north of Haiti where demonstrators blame UN peacekeepers for the recent cholera outbreak that's killed more than 1000 people. The UN says the protests are organized by people looking to spoil upcoming elections. The EU says its offer to help Ireland still stands after a meeting of European finance ministers in Brussels, but the Irish government insists it doesn't need a bailout.
