German security authorities are alarmed: signs are increasing that Islamists are planning attacks on German nationals. Threatening videos are turning up more and more frequently, and more and more Muslims are traveling to Pakistan.The country is regarded as a destination for many seeking training as terrorists, including travellers from Germany. Several attacks planned in Germany have already been foiled. The terrorists’ goal seems to be to intimidate Berlin into withdrawing its army, the Bundeswehr, from Afghanistan ahead of Germany’s parliamentary elections in September.
