Air Safety: Increasing Risk?
The risk of airplane accident remains low compared with other modes of transportation. However, with the recent spate of terrorist attacks, the fear of air fatalities has increased amongst air travelers, and the population as well. About 1.5 million people travel by air every day. As the number of air travelers rises, the load strain on existing facilities increases the possibility of accidents. In addition to maintenance and training concerns, passengers also face the threat of hijacking or other terrorist activity. Are airlines really the safest way to travel? Are planes being properly maintained and inspected? Has the FAA failed the American public? From the Series:Capitol Region Roundtable
