Seasons First Case Of Human West Nile Virus Found In Bronx The city Department of Health confirmed Thursday that a 61-year-old Bronx man has the seasons first human case of West Nile Virus in New York, and health officials warn the number of mosquitoes with the virus is growing. The 61-year-old was hospitalized with meningitis. DOH officials are urging New Yorkers to wear mosquito repellent and long sleeves and pants during the morning and evening hours. Three New Yorkers were diagnosed with West Nile Virus last year, and 15 were diagnosed with the virus in 2008. Common symptoms of West Nile Virus include headache, fever, muscle aches and extreme fatigue, but more severe cases can cause mental status and muscle weakness. People over 50 are especially at risk for fatal infections of the brain or spinal cord. DOH officials are treating areas with standing water with non-chemical larvicides to kill larval mosquitoes before they hatch and small amounts of pesticides.  Rating 0/10 Views 204 Duration 00:49
