Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV If a woman who is HIV positive becomes pregnant, theres a risk that her baby will contract HIV during pregnancy, childbirth, or breast feeding. Becky Kuhn, M.D. explains how the risk can be reduced through the use of antiretroviral medications for the mother and the infant and the use of formula instead of breast feeding.
