Siemens AG (NYSE: SI) plans to undertake its first solar-thermal power plant within two months.The company is requesting financing for projects that will triple its capacity, according to the company’s head of solar energy for Spain.A Siemens executive said in an interview, "This summer we will be selling energy. In a very short time, it will be producing at 100 percent."Siemens purchased stake in the plant when the invested Solel Solar Systems Ltd. in 2009 to uprise its offerings in concentrating solar power. The International Energy Agency said the technology may supply 11 percent of global electricity by 2050 and could be competitive with conventional power at peak times by the end of the decade.The recent plants will cost around $434 million each and include a heat storage mechanism to increase the total of time that they will manufacture power each day, according to a Siemens source.Siemens is currently above its 50-day moving average (MA) of $133.95 and above its 200-day of $125.28.
