Grocery School:guide To Cruelty Free Meat
In this lesson of Grocery School, learn all about cruelty free meat. When shopping for poultry, look for word Free Range on the packets. This USDA approved term means that the animals are allowed to roam freely. Though Free Farmed sounds similar, it means that the animals can’t be raised in confinement. It means the chickens when alive were permitted to roam open pasture spaces and might not be kept in cages. The term Grass-Fed or Grass Pasteurized is used for beef; it means that the animal gets some portion of their diets from grasses. Grain Finished is used to symbolize that the animals were grass-fed or grass pasteurized for at least a part of their life and fed grain surely before their slaughter. Grass fed or grass pasteurized or grain finished are all unregulated terms; only reliable when shown with the USDA certified organic seal. This important seal means that the animals were given access to the outdoors when appropriate, with animals like goats, sheep, and cows that needed access to Pasteur. Certified organic animals must e given access to hay. So, when you are planning to shop for meat, always buy a certified organic seal meat.
