Although terrorism using biological, chemical or radiological weapons remains a major concern, almost all attacks carried out to date have employed conventional explosives. The injuries produced by such weapons are therefore of vital concern to clinicians. Drs. DePalma and Burris will review the mechanisms and patterns of blast injuries and describe basic approaches to diagnosis and therapy, as described in their review article published last year in the New England Journal of Medicine.
