Gene-Modified Salmon Nears Approval
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is considering whether to approve genetically modified salmon for human consumption. If it does the fish would be the first bio-engineered animal to reach dinner tables. The company that developed the salmon says it will mean more fish for the market place and less pressure on wild fish. Opponents question what effect the new fish might have on people’s health and the environment.
