Police: Parents attack 73-Year-Old crossing guard
Tweet Two Lansing parents now face charges after allegedly assaulting a 73-year-old crossing guard. Police are still looking for 26-year old Darell Livingston. But Friday they say 29-year old Shareka McKinney is in custody. Investigators say the couple drove their 7-year-old son to a bus stop, and told him to beat-up another boy in retaliation for a previous incident and that’s when the elderly cros More..sing guard got involved. James Thompson has helped kids cross the street at this corner for five years. "Nothing else to do, kids I don't hate or nothing like that so I come down here to deal with them," said James Thompson, crossing guard. And Thompson had plenty to deal with on Thursday morning. That's when he saw a first grader assault a classmate. He says he broke it up and that's when he says the father of the boy picking the fight went after him. "He told me 'get my so-and-so hands off his kid and don't you touch him no more...what I'll do to you" I told him 'no, you got the wrong man' - and soon as I turned around, he popped me in the face," said Thompson. Thompson didn't suffer serious injuries, just a cracked tooth. Photos taken by a neighbor show the attacker's wife also assaulting Thompson. They helped police identify the suspects. "The crossing guards, I know they do it for the love of the children, they do it for the safety of the children," said Lt. Noel Garcia, Lansing Police Department. Thompson returned to work Friday morning, and doesn't plan on leaving his job any time soon. "When I can't tell what color the red light is, that's when I'll quit," said Thompson. The parents also face charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. If you've seen Darell Livingston or know where he is, police would like you to call them at: 483-4600.
