Ammar Nakshawani - How & Why Islam reformed Slavery
A lecture given by Sayed Ammar Nakshawani in Stanmore Hujjat Imambargah in 2006. In this lecture, Sayed Ammar talks about Slavery in various periods of times, and how Slavery was a means of exploitations for those who owned them, for exmaple in the times of the Romans, it is said that there was more slaves then free people. Sayed Ammar then goes on to say how Islam raised the status of the slaves to that of their masters. ________________________________________ Slavery in Islam is often an aspect which is criticised by the non-muslims, who, blinded by their ignorance, are unable to grasp the situation of the Arab regions during which Islam was introduced. Slavery could not be abolished by the Holy Prophet as Slavery was deeply integrated in the Arabian economy, and abolishing slavery would have meant that the Economy crumble, thus making many materialistic people against the teachings of Islam. Instead, Islam reformed and raised the status of the slaves through the Holy Prophet. 16 of the martyrs in Karbala where slaves. Being a slave of the Family of the Prophet was not opression, but was freedom.
