Palm Oil in Thailand - Models for Sustainable Production
Global 3000 starts the new year with the first in a series of programs on climate. Our first report brings us to the Thai province of Krabi, where palm oil is mass-produced. Thailand is using palm oil, a renewable natural resource, to boost the use of biodiesel and reduce the country’s carbon dioxide emissions. While neighboring countries Malaysia and Indonesia have already cleared large swathes of rainforest to make room for oil palm plantations, Thailand is taking a different approach. The country's project is set to receive funding from the German government's climate initiative.
