Rio Rancho police: new radars will catch tailgaters
rio rancho police have a new tool they hope will help prevent the number one cause of crashes in the city. we got a look at the lidar or laser radar today. it allows officers to measure the distance between two vehicles. officials say tailgating leads to the most crashes in rio rancho. "we go off the theory that you have a second and a half to perceive you’re in an accident and a second and a half to actually react to that accident. so realistically, you should have 2 to 3 car car lengths in front of you." right now.... officers are ticketing drivers whose vehicles are within one second of the vehicle in front of them. the fine is 119 dollars [www.clipsyndicate.com KOB Albuquerque, NM]
