Cancan dance, the legendary dance of Paris.
Think of Paris and you’re likely to think of the Moulin Rouge and its legendary cancan dancers. Places aren’t cheap but all seats were full last night for a special New Year’s Eve show. The glitz, the glamour the scantily-clad Cancan dancers it’s got to be Paris’ Moulin Rouge. A choice venue to welcome in the New Year; all 850 seats sold out way in advance. And, at 570 Euros per person, you want a good show. Ziaga, Australian Tourist, "It’s worth it; I know how much it costs but it's the experience; it's just something you can't get anywhere else in the world." And she’s not the only one. Many a visitor stops for a photo under the iconic windmill sails. In fact, one in two of the show’s spectators are a tourist. Rene Jourdi, Reservations Manager, Moulin Rouge, "People come because of the prestige of the show, the name of the Moulin Rouge. And they keep coming back. You have a lot of businessmen who come, lots of foreigners and lots of French people too.” In 2008, the famous cabaret turned over 44 million Euros while its customers glugged an impressive quarter of a million bottles of champagnes. It seems, for many, there’s nothing like a trip to the Moulin Rouge to forget your money blues.
