Ripudaman Singh Malik, et al. - October 15, 2010Case #33266The Supreme Court is hearing a dispute over Air India legal fees. Ripudaman Singh Malik is an acquitted Air India bombing suspect. The 1985 bombing of Air India Flight 182 claimed the lives of 331 people. The B.C. government provided funding for Malik’s defence costs. At a bail hearing in 2000, the millionaire Vancouver businessman said that he and his wife had a net worth of approximately $11.6 million. Malik claimed that he needed government funding for his defence costs because his assets could not be easily liquidated. Malik failed to transfer his assets to the government as agreed. The B.C. government is seeking repayment of over $6 million.
