Behind the Wall: Syria
More than 450 people are said to have died in Syria in the past weeks as the government of President Bashar al-Assad cracked down heavily on anti-regime protesters that have been filling the streets of major cities. Events are mostly covered up by Syrian media, while international information outlets, barred from the country, rely on the Internet and social media to unearth the truth. Here is what VOA Middle East has been able to glean from contacts on Twitter, postings on its Middle East Voices Facebook page and e-mail submissions of images and video.
